Summary | 0001039: Add a "did you know?" section
Description | Considering the myriad features available on anidb, it might be useful for an optional "did you know" section to be displayed on all pages that highlight a random feature of anidb. I've been using anidb for a few months now and I still come across a new feature every week :) For e.g., "Did you know?": - "that you can compare your "mylist" against another user?" - "that you can rate all your anime en masse using quickvote?" ... and so on. They would be linked to the feature or a wiki page as appropriate. A lot of stuff is highlighted on the "Why should I sign up?" wiki page, but this would be a lot friendlier.

I like the idea, however, the question is whether anyone would find _this_ feature :P So if we want to do this, it would probably need to be activated by default and would need to display a big deactivate/hide/close button which would allow users to turn the messages off. This feels somewhat similar to the new anidb "adbar" for guests. Dunno if it should be done like that though. |
I was thinking of an activated-by-default "block", but the "bar" might also work and appears to be quite similar in nature. I hadn't really noticed it until now though. It could be turned off via the user's profile like all other anidb settings: "Hide awards on anime page" etc. |

Well, might be an option. But it would still need to be integrated into the main style somehow. (integration into other styles would obviously also be good, but is not required considering the small amount of users using alternative styles) |
i've been thinking about hi-jacking the styling that has been done in anidbstyle for the non-logged users to do this. |
First version already implemented and working. Just waiting to get it uploaded. |

IMHO the current implementation is too prominent. These messages would probably bother most of our users (that is ok for anonymous guests, but logged in users should be treated with a bit more respect :P). Suggestions: 1) add a "don't show this again" link besides each message which will turn of the corresponding profile option 2) make the messages appear only every now and then, i.e. once at the start of a session (that is after login), or once every 50 page loads. 3) make the messages blend in better with the active style, that is, a bit less obstrusive BYe!
