synonyms means all titles except main in this case, so this is intended behavior. the filter has not changed, only whether it's on or off by default EDIT: in case you didn't notice, the anime search page (not adv.) = 'anime lists' |

yes, i understand why it is like this, but this effectively makes "hide synonyms by default" unusable, because you now have to hit "show synonyms" almost on every search.I think it should not affect pages with adb.search, or search result page should include main title even if match was on different title. |

it's not unusable for users, like me, who are only interested in main titles. if you are not one of those i don't see why you would use that option. and it's basically up to what you prefer; having to click 'hide synonyms' because you usually get too many results, or 'show synonyms' because you usually get too few. i found myself always clicking 'hide synonyms' and that's why this option is very useful for me. anyway, i understand what you mean, but it is out of scope of this option. search in general can (and will) be improved (chii has better search now, btw). with all the new titles in other languages that has been added lately, more filtering has to be added at some point. hacking on this option isn't going to solve anything. different wording to make it clear that it also includes normal anime search is not out of the question, though |

it's not about being interested only in main titles or not, and not about description of that option. "hide synonyms" should literaly hide synonyms, leaving exactly one instance of particular anime in the list. but right now in some cases it removes some anime from that list completely, and i think it is plain wrong. To put it simple - search for "fullmetal" should always give "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi". Because i want to be able actualy hide synonyms on that page, and not see 20 instances of "Fullmetal Alchemist" in 20 different languages. |

when i search for "fullmetal" with "hide synonyms" i do not expect to get "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi", simply because "Hagane no Renkinjutsushi" does not contain "fullmetal". i think it is pretty normal search behavior to only return strings that actually match. i'm effectively saying "get all main titles that contains fullmetal", not "get main title of all anime that has a title containing fullmetal". you may request such a filter, although i think there are much better solutions for this, like; decimate equal titles, fiter by language preferences, etc. |

this was implemented as Harkonnen suggested in the end + distinct results + a "matched on" span when searching with the filter on. there is also a language filter, but that's not added to the interface yet. |
