Summary | 0000070: # of Audio Channels (not Streams!) of a file
Description | I find myself often looking for things with 5.1 sound, but thats kinda hard atm, because there is no real indication how many channels an anime has. And assuming by codec (ac3, aac) is at least half of the time wrong. atm I'm using the desciptionfield to add the # of channels, but thats not a very nice way of doing it and so far I think I'm the only one doing that Sad there could be 3 states for this entry: - mono (1ch) - stereo (2ch) - 5.1 (6ch) mono could be left out, but imho this would be a nice addition. for stereo no icon is needed imho. also discussed here: http://www.anidb.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2539

lets rephrase that to "# of USED audio channels" a file has. a4e lately rels everything with 6ch AAC even though only 2 are used >_< |
|
sounds interesting. however the number of used audio channels might be impossible to determine for users without a 5.1 sound system. that might lead to some "creq-wars". but it's of course the right way to do it. |
|
Well, we can force them to use GSpot or Video Inspector for that. |
|
hmm, if gspot does it, maybe aom 0.6 can check it, as i guess it uses some kind of code from gspot |

How would this work with some of the mkvs that are kicking around at the moment? It's not uncommon to have a video stream, a 5.1ch and/or 2ch jpn, 2ch eng, and various different sub languages (plus other stuff like chapter info) all in one container. Andidb isn't really designed to represent this kinda detail. But hey, a simple flag for greatest number of channels in a stream in a file would be quite nice. |

1.0 - mono 2.0 - stereo 4.0 - dolby surround 5.1 - 5.1 surround (which are the actual sane and often used ones) 6.1 - 6.1 surround <-- 3 files for that atm 7.1 - 7.1 surround <-- none, but hey better be prepared 2 more options hardly hurt so add 6.1 and 7.1 as well. (6.0, 2.1 are possible as well, but no one sane releases in that... seriously. we got some files flagged with "6 channel" in the filecomments, but i bet my ass on it they are all 5.1. 6 channel without 1 bass is utterly retarded.) |
