I just noticed that episode appearance is not displayed if there is no picture to be shown, regardless of any options or being logged in

The profile option "Show cast in fullwidth" is responsible for this.

By default the characters on the cast tab are displayed as "bubbles". These bubbles have the eprange element set to hidden.

If the "Show cast in fullwidth" profile option is enabled a single character entry is displayed per row, instead of as many as can fit. This also displays the eprange element.

(Do NOT remove the "Show cast in fullwidth" option. I prefer the cast tab like that.)

There are multiple options to solve this issue:
1. Display the eprange element in the bubbles too.
2. Add a [?] icon next to the character name to display the character info block and add the eprange in that popup under the info box.

The eprange element under the thumbnail hover should for sure be removed.

I'd prefer for it to not be removed, and to be displayed on hover even if there is no thumbnail available

I tend to agree that the episode range should probably be displayed only on hover (regardless of the character having a picture, text only characters can never have a pic) for 2 reasons: less spoilers, but most importantly less space used in the cast list when it comes to the long running series.
That would be the default view, there should still be an option to show ep range under the character "bubbles" if someone wants it that way.

If it's moved to on hover only, the option should definitely remain to do keep it as today. I don't want to have to load the full pic for every character I want to see the eprange for; the way this works would make it a painful and time-consuming process. Using the cast add page isn't a complete solution as it works quite differently (e.g. doesn't show char tags).

Still, I'd say the default should be to actually show regardless. If spoilers are a concern, why would we want to embed them with the full pic? If I want to see the full pic, I'd have to get these supposed spoilers as well? That makes little sense. A different solution should be engineered instead.

But it's already on hover only as of today if it's displayed as "bubbles"
Although I am not sure if nwa meant only "bubbles" or both "bubbles" and fullwidth when he said:
> the episode range should probably be displayed only on hover

Fucking HTTPS and its inability to keep information saved in the forms. And fucking Mantis for telling me my security token has expired or what shit, I only had this page open for like 20 minutes, these settings should be changed. Fuck this...

Anyway, yeah.. Hinoe, when you say it should be as it is today, then you're saying the exact opposite of what you actually want. I don't think I've changed any related settings and I only see the episode ranges in the image popup when you hover over the thumbnail.
And I did mean only shown under the image popup that appear on hover, mainly because that's less clutter on the cast list, especially for long running series of 100+ eps and generally I don't see the use of having that information visible permanently (I suppose that can be said about a number of other data as well, though).
Then again, I'm not sure how the popup would then look if character has no image or if it's a virtual entry. I wouldn't particularly cry if the episode ranges would be shown inside the character bubbles by default, but then they should be removed from the on hohover popup.

Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C and "Add Note".

The way it used to be? Not that long ago, there was no popup and only a tooltip appeared with the episode range

> And I did mean only shown under the image popup that appear on hover
That goes without saying, that's not what I've been questioning though. From your answer I can surmise that you apparently could not understand what worf meant:
> If the "Show cast in fullwidth" profile option is enabled a single character entry is displayed per row, instead of as many as can fit. This also displays the eprange element.

Here are some pics to clear the possible confusion:

nwa, you are talking about spoiler concerns. If we're acting on that argument, it follows that the logic would have to be extended to the fullwidth option, and that would be a point of concern. Perhaps I should have made that clearer. With that said, I still don't see why I should be hit with those supposed spoilers when wanting to see the full-sized pic, so I don't see that as a solution.

I'd also like to note that it's always possible to make both forms of display have the eprange wherever anyone wants by moving that behavior to an option of its own.

As a note, I've recently had the opportunity of talking to Yorhel about VNDB actually *removing* correct seiyuu data due to cries of spoilers due to there being no hiding in the seiyuu pages. While I don't think we're in grave danger of going the same route, this does illustrate the anything-can-be-spoilers mentality. If I don't want any sort of spoilers, what I should do is probably avoid looking at the cast at all; there's only so much you can do and the very existence of some characters can already be spoilers. So I really don't understand what you're trying to get at.

Alright, so you fixed it by adding a questionmark icon to the right side of character name that gives the episode list when you hover over it.
